Our interactive life skills training

Since 2008, we have started to build our life skills training system. Step by step, we have developed 6 categories, and over than 60+ lessons in order to support our producers to move forward independently.

Our categories are including working ethics, problem solving, interpersonal, self-management, self-confidence and basic literacy. In addition, we developed our nutrition courses since 2011.

Task Management & 5S

Target: new producers

Our trainer, Dina, divided the participants into small groups and asked them to assemble lego to create a robot in two different ways, planned and unplanned. Afterwards, Dina asked the participants to compare the difference between the planned and unplanned robots and encouraged them to think about the efficiency of task planning and team cooperation.

Next, our trainer introduced the “5S” to trainees.  “5S” is an efficient working method. They present it in a video and it got more eye-catching from our trainees.

Motivation

Target: the trainers of Japan Lay Missionary Movement (Training of Trainers)

Our trainer described 4 stories with images, they then asked the participants to think about why the lead characters in the stories lost their motivation. By discussing the problems in these stories, the participants came to understand whether the lack of motivation came from internal or external factors.  The trainer helped them to distinguish between internal and external motivations and showed them how to transfer external factors to the internal ones and finally turn them into self-motivation.

Team Work

Target: shop staff

At the beginning of the day, our trainer asked our team members to play a game. 10 of them worked together to control a small ball on a big piece of paper which had numbered holes. Using this game, we can observe how the team members cooperate with each other and see whether they are communicating well.

Next, trainees took part in a  role-play, to review the conversation between the shop staff and stock staff. After the exercise, the trainer asked them to discuss and think about the best ways to communicate with colleagues.

At the end of the day, participants were asked to draw their own life chart. Which included, what has made them happy or sad in their lives and when it happened.  They then shared their life charts with the other team members. The activity let them review their own life and also learn more about their team members’ backgrounds.

The aim is that as they know more about each other, they will have more empathy, understanding and will not judge each other as easily.
